News from Assurant, Mitsubishi Corporation and more

Assurant released its mobile trade-in and upgrade trends report covering the first quarter of 2025, which saw the highest average age of traded-in devices at 3.79 years for iPhones and 3.93 years for Androids.

Battery producer Clarios announced plans to invest up to $1 billion in a U.S. critical minerals processing and recovery plant, which will “utilize cutting-edge technologies to extract antimony and other critical minerals from recycled materials.” The company cited recent executive orders focused on building up domestic supply of these metals as factors.

Mitsubishi Corporation acquired a stake in U.K.-based DEScycle, a technology company that is advancing a method of dissolving metals at room temperature and regular atmospheric pressure, billed as an alternative to smelting.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s Oregon E-Cycles program, which is rolling out significant updates in 2026, published a compliance guide for electronics producer responsibility organizations and manufacturers of covered devices.

SERI opened nominations for the inaugural 2025 SERI ReThink Awards, which will be presented at SERI’s eSummit in Minneapolis in September.
